Sir Winston Churchill
"Never Give In"
"This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."
"If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it the third time — a tremendous whack."
"Dictators ride to and fro upon tigers which they dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry."
"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."

Tonight's sample is Bad King John Black English Ale from Ridgeway Brewing, Oxfordshire . At 6% this is not as dark as the porter , but just as nice .

Thanks Sceadugenden. The sacrifices you make on behalf of quality beverages.

Also given a can of Kopparburg Pear cider, Swedish, not English, I know, but does taste of pears and is light and refreshing.

Tetley English Ale, formerly of Leeds and now brewed in Northampton and one of our brewers owned by large multi nationals (Carlsberg), This does go against my idea of trying the product of independent breweries , but it was a gift , so I guess I will just have to put up with it. Anyway back to the test.
A beer that is not as bitter as I normally like , with a treacle like after taste . Cheap and cheerful and better than John Smiths.

I'm drinking Old Peckled right now - it's quite good actually. I usually prefer rubies, but this is quite a good tipple too. I'll give the cider a miss though, not my taste to be honest.
