Seems that black squirrels are on the rise, spreading disease and once again threatening the survival of the native English squirrel (Red squirrels have declined from over a million to 120,000 mainly due to the introduction of the grey).
Does this have a familiar vibe to it?

We could always break out the shotguns, they're a very nice shade of black and I could use a new hat

These are common where I am. More blacks than greys here although there is debate as to wheather they are a different species or a mutation of a colour gene. They can be aggresive feeders, raiding bins, bird tables and people's picknicks. They appear from sight to be bigger than the greys, I had one the size of a small cat in the garden eating chips I had left out for the birds. They are not affraid to take food out people's hands either. The poor native reds are just out competed by them. People come from all over to photograph them, even met a bloke from Devon who visited for the day to see them. Soon they will be everywhere then we will see how wonderful some people think they are (sounds familiar...)

Grey squirrels- non native species causing huge damage to the native, now itself being replaced by another invasive black species. Ring-neck parakeets, alien species causing huge damage to the native birds. Mink- aggressive alien species causing huge damage to native wildlife.
