Greetings All,

I'm an avid history reader and I came across the following today and since I do not recall ever seeing it, I was wondering if someone could confirm. Thanks.

"I recall, at the time of the 1976 Bicentenial celebration, Winston Churchill III, grandson of the famous prime minister rose in the House of Commons to say that the English won the American Revolution. Everyone was astonished. Then he explained that the Englishmen of America had rebelled against the (German) King George III, who did not understand the rights of Englishmen. In so doing, they restored the rights of Englishmen. "

If true, well done!

It was mainly the banking system and taxes the Americans rebelled against rather than any deep wanting of independance.

Ironic how as you look at America now, it is a hundred times worse than what the British Empire ever was.

The foundation of this was laid with the signing of the Magna Carta. KingSaeward you are partially correct, but read the Federalist Papers and you'll find it was deeper than being about money. I agree with the latter though, if Washington & company were around today they'd be saying, "We put a 2nd ammendment in the constitution for a reason, what the hell are you people waiting for an invitation?!"
That day is rapidly approaching though!

I've said this before myself. The American revoution was nothing more-nor-less than an English civil war between Anglo-Saxon traditions and those of the Norman-influenced nobility on a dstant continent. The Anglo-Saxons won.
