So we scrap an entire squadron of Nimrods in production.

We scrap an aircraft carrier and all the R.A.F's Harriers.

We pretty much disgrace our maritime history by letting our fleet twindle down to a single man floating in a bath tub.

And our Government acts surprised when Argentina starts wanting access to the oil rich Falklands again...... Fucking idiots the lot of them. Don't worry, we still have the last flying Vulcan bomber...oh, but we probably don't have the tanker squadron anymore to get it there.

Frankly burning the UJ, along with banning Falklands-flagged ships and stamping their little feet is about all they can really do, military action is out of the question. The runway at Stanley airport has been extended to allow military jets like Typhoon and Tornado to use it, there is a whole host of missile and AA defences and the Army garrison is much larger than in 1982. And our kit is so much more advanced than theirs it wouldn't be much more than a turkey shoot by all accounts. I think we should regard this action with the contempt it deserves.

There is more than enough of our military on the Falklands to deal with any threat from those dirty chilli chompers. The Argentinian forces are still conscripted and have no combat experience. Their leaders would no that sending any kind of invasion force would be suicidal. I do agree that the cuts that both Labour and the Torries have made to our military have somewhat weakend our standing in the world and I hope that this is a wake up call to the LIB/LAB/CON.

We still have the best trained and to an extent the best equiped military in the world, and while our military has changed one hell of a lot since 1982, the Argentine forces have not. I see this as nothing more than the diegos bumping their gums about the vast amount of black gold found around the Falklands. Nothing will come of it.

Mount Pleasant Airport is an impressive thing , as Witnere said. The run way can take any aircraft, including the Space Shuttle ( a request from NASA as an emergency  landing strip.). A lot of money was invested in Stanley in the early 90`s. A leisure centre, hospital and new housing , plus new houses.
When our ship used to dock there we would see the Tornados using Stanley Harbour for the low level training runs.
Now with this threat we have no Harriers, all the services are being cut to the quick and we have sod all ships.
The main concern is Afghanistan, something which is sod to do with us.
Thanks to the wankers in Westminster, we may have to go cap in hand to the US just like in 1940, that is of course if Brussels say we can.

Another war with the Argies would be a god send for our forces. It was the same with Thatcher and her military spending cuts before the Falklands. However that all changed after the invasion.

Let them invade. It'll give our Typhoons some practice and it will strengthen our navy again. Might be the catalyst our forces need to prepare for WW3.
