Just spent half an hour reading the Telegraph comment section Woodsman. Good grief if a civil war doesn't start in England within 5 years I'll eat my green beret. Loads of ex-squaddies on there, and ex-police. Them lamp posts will have to take two politicians each by the end of it.

I was refused a rented flat once, because I was on the dole. The flat was owned by Indians/Pakistanis (I'm sorry, I cannot tell the difference), and they specifically stated no DSS. They also owned the shop the advert for the flat was posted in. Now why would they refuse those on benefits?
Because they themselves are claiming whilst earning, and to accept me with my claim to housing benefit would have alerted the authorities to this....
Not to mention the flat in question was built on English land, by English hands. Made me sick at the time (14 years ago now) and it still rankles.
The work I do means I know the figures. I continue to work there because I will not give ground, and because it gives me the status of a 'citizen of standing in the community'....and that's a voice I can use.
