For you Mosquito fans out there, I thought this was a good story about a couple old vets. First link is a news clip I caught a few days ago (wait for the commercial to pass, ugh), and the second a brief text blurb. Personally, I have always wanted to meet with a Mosquito pilot, shake the hand of living history, and hear about what it was like. I find it hard to believe, but it is a reality, that there are fewer and fewer WWII vets left.

Good on them. Real Canadians.

I will be forwarding that one Ridend. Cheers.

Sir Winston Churchill

"Never Give In"

"This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

"If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it the third time — a tremendous whack."

"Dictators ride to and fro upon tigers which they dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry."

"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."

What were the chances of those two meeting up again like that? A happy story for them, being able to have someone who really knows and shared their experiences, at that  time of life.

I would say the odds are pretty damn high not only given age but location. Yes, a happy story for once. Unfortunately over here for the last few years, vets have had a fight on their hands against the government who is trying to screw them out of their deserved compensation and other support via budget cuts and clawbacks. Yes, the very same people who trashed the public purse, now want to give vets the shaft. When you have businessmen become politicians, almighty money takes precedent above all else. These are also the very same people who so easily send those in service off to fight in foreign countries where death and maiming is a possibility. All I can say if these elected officials can find the cash for the endless flow of foreign aid, and splash out for such useless things as the Olympics, then they can find the money for vets.
